The Elephant and Castle Community Hub, which used to be based on the Upper Mall of the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre is now online and hosting free virtual wellness activities, fitness classes and arts & crafts workshops for local people.

We know that keeping the mind and body active is essential while you are in self-isolation so we have brought a host of wellness, fitness and arts & crafts activities online.

  1. COVID-19 support organisations and contact details:
    SAMARITANS – Provides confidential, non-judgemental emotional support for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair. You can phone, email, write a letter or in most cases talk to someone face to face.

    The Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together we provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty.

  2. London College of Communication, UAL located in the heart of Elephant & Castle is helping Small-to-Medium-Enterprises (SMEs) to adapt and innovate through tough times due to the global pandemic with an online workshop through the Digital Grid Partnership. The event will aim to help businesses explore ways to reinvigorate their digital marketing strategy and provide an overview of vital tools, practices and industry trends in one day.

    The workshop will be a mixture of lecture-based learning, case study analysis, practical exercises and peer feedback. For more information and how to register, click here.

  3. The Elephant and Castle Town Centre project team is keeping informed of forthcoming activities and progress on the development of Elephant and Castle Town Centre.  This provides an opportunity to meet with members of the project team, discuss the works programme in more detail and ask any questions that you may have. The next Neighbourhood Information Forum is on Tuesday 3 November at 18.30. If you would like to attend the Neighbourhood Information Forum and/or receive monthly calendar notifications, please email to sign up!

  4. During this difficult period with the ongoing situation around COVID-19, we are encouraging all our contractors to assist the local communities in which we operate. As a result of this the Elephant and Castle Town Centre project team through Multiplex have already provided over 30,000 items of PPE to help assist the nation’s frontline essential workers within the borough. Supported by its fantastic supply chain, the team has provided masks, glasses, gloves, overshoes, overalls, hand sanitiser, wipes and surface spray.

  5. Covid-19 Mutual Aid UK is a group of volunteers supporting local community groups organising mutual aid throughout the Covid-19 outbreak in the UK. They focus on providing resources and connecting people to their nearest local groups, willing volunteers and those in need. To find the local groups in your area click here

  8. Co-Op in the Elephant and Castle shopping centre now has a dedicated shopping hour for people who are at higher risk or elderly (Mon-Sat 9-10am & Sun 10-11am).

  9. Iceland logo

    Iceland in the Elephant & Castle shopping centre will be participating in the chain’s national initiative to reserve 10am to midday on Wednesdays for shopping by the elderly and vulnerable. If you’re over the state pension age, self-isolating, disabled of vulnerable in some way, Iceland are also temporarily limiting online orders to help those who are unable to get to their stores to buy their essential products.

  10. FareShare

    Fare Share is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 17 charitable food organisations. Fare Share takes good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and redistribute it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups.   11. The Trussel Trust. Stop UK Hunger.

    Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together they provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.   12. Dad's House charity logo

    Dads House a charity supporting single fathers, mothers and families, are  supporting the community in Elephant & Castle by ensuring local residents can receive essentials from a newly-opened food bank. The food bank will operate initially on Tuesdays and Fridays 11am – 4pm at E&C shopping centre, first floor. They are also looking for volunteers. To donate, get in touch here

For those interested on how, when and where you can help vulnerable people in your local community, whether it be by donating tinned goods to a local food bank, offering to take your neighbours dog for a walk while they are stuck indoors, or just simply lending a listening ear to someone who would just like to chat.
